Geest was at one time Britain's largest and well known Banana importer. The business was sold after 40 years of trading to Fyffes. The Company was originally founded in the 1930's when it imported Dutch flower bulbs and they began importing bananas in 1953. Hurricanes and tropical diseases caused them to sell the business.
We have just a few of these now very rare crates. They have good markings with deposit marks on the end of 10/-, so they have to be older than February 1971 when decimalisation came in. One of the crates is clearly marked 1962.
With their size they would make really interesting planters.
